    Description

    Pope Pius IX Photograph Signed, an oval albumen photograph of the pope mounted on a sheet, 4.5" x 6.5", Rome, November 15, 1861. The inscription below the photograph is an Apostolic Benediction to "Monsieur Cornille, Edouard Henri Sous Lieutenant au 29e [Regiment] de ligne". Pope Pius signed below the benediction. The sheet also has a red wax papal seal. Rounded corners and a light water stain at the bottom, else near fine. Pius IX formally defined the dogma of the Immaculate Conception and organized the First Vatican Council, which defined the dogma of papal infallibility.
