Description

Nikita Khrushchev Typed Document Signed. One page, 7" x 11.25", in Russian, Moscow, March 28, 1944. Just over one month before the Allied victory in Europe during the Second World War, Khrushchev writes to Joseph Stalin "On Comrade Vatutin's State of Health," a Soviet general who was wounded in an ambush by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army just weeks before, in part: "After yesterday's surgery there has been a certain improvement in the state of his health. . . . The general condition is satisfactory, but he is still very weak and is perspiring profusely. Even though just a little bit, still in the morning he has already eaten. . . . slept for a little while, which had not been the case for several days before it." Vatutin died two and a half weeks later. Signed in red pencil by Khrushchev. Folds. One inch tear at the left edge with minor loss of paper, but not affecting the text.
