    Napoleon Bonaparte Document Signed "Nap." One partially-printed page with integral blank, 8.5" x 12.5", in French, September 27, 1807. Here, the French emperor places his endorsement on a letter from the Minster of War, Henri Clarke, regarding the nomination of "Sieur de la Croix, sergeant major in the 7th Regiment of Cavalry, for the position of sub lieutenant in the Royal Italian Cavalry . . . made on the 25th July last by His Imperial Highness the Prince Viceroy (Eugéne de Beauharnais, the stepson of Napoleon)." De la Croix first entered the military on October 1, 1806, at the age of 20. He rose rapidly in rank, gaining his first promotion, to corporal, in January 1807, quartermaster sergeant the following month, and by April sergeant major. Folds, else fine.
