Description

Konstantin Tsiolkovsky Autograph Letter Signed "Tsiolkovsky" in light pencil, two pages, 7" x 10.75", front and verso. Kaluga, February 17, 1935. To Viktor Aleksandrovich. In part (translated from the Russian), "Thank you for your sympathy! The three little ones (aged 7-12) went down with scarlet fever. One (like an angel) had died, the rest were taken to a hospital, and seem to be recovering. Take into consideration the infectiousness of the disease. My mood (except for the logic) is terrible..." Tsiolkovsky then turned to business matters: "Until we can have a discussion in person, let's leave everything without any changes, adding just a list of works. Quite a few of them have accumulated now, and it is necessary to put together a special list. Of course, the article Light and Shadows cannot be printed (as well as the one that has not been finished: The Shadows)...I expect questions, but cannot answer all of them. Won't you please find... someone to comment on the attached typescript? Has the first volume of my selected works come out (in an integral form) yet?... Paper of the Conference on Stratosphere Research is being printed now...It contains one of my works on stratosphere. Will those papers be sent out to the participants and authors?...P.S. Though I am ill, I am still working; and I cannot do without work." Tsiolkovsky died seven months later at the age of 78. A pioneering Russian aeronautical theorist and writer, Tsiolkovsky is the father of the Soviet space program. He built the first wind tunnel and solved fundamental problems about space travel, such as use of liquid rocket fuel, long before such activity was feasible. Folds, one slight separation at the right edge of the mid-horizontal fold. With full English translation.
