King George II of Great Britain Document Signed "George R". One page, 13.5" x 9.5", vellum, partly printed, Court at Kensington, June 20, 1727. A military commission, in part: "...To our Trusty and Welbeloved Lewis Marcell Gentleman Greeting. We do by these presents Constitute and Appoint you to be Ensign to that Company whereof John Retty Esq. is Captain in Our Regiment of foot commanded by...Colonel Henry Harrison..." This document was signed a scant nine days after George II succeeded to the throne at the death of his father, with whom he seldom agreed. King George II was the last British Monarch to actually lead his troops into battle in person- at the battle of Dettingen in 1743. This document has an intact paper seal and three blue tax stamps. It is double matted with an 1805 engraving of the King and framed to an overall size of 26.5" x 16". Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
