Juan Antonio Padilla Document Signed. One and one-half pages, 8.25" x 12", Monterrey, January 13, 1821, in Spanish only seven months before the Treaty of Córdoba, which granted Mexican independence from Spain, was signed. This manuscript of a decree issued by the Mexican Minister of War regarding an order from the king reinstating some officials who had been ousted at the time of the revolution, giving them preferential treatment and reinstating their positions at their same previous salaries. The document offers Manuel de Ena, who had been governor of Alcaniz at 30,000 reales per year, as an example. Before Mexican independence, Juan Antonio Padilla (?-1839) served secretary to the commandant general of the eastern Provicias Internas. After independence, he accepted an appointment as the secretary of state of Coahuila and Texas (1825-1828). Some staining and very slight fading of text.
