Description

José Maria Jiménez Autograph Letter Signed. 6pp., two-sided, 8vo, Leona Vicario, June 2, 1838. This interesting letter, written to Jesús de la Garza, typifies the Mexican sentiment with regard to those who supported the Texans' cause and the people and events involved in the conflict. In part: "Having seen the unfortunate luck of Navarro, maybe this will cause disillusionment for the banished Mexicans who have done so much damage to our country by embracing ideas of ambitious foreigners... the judge found for the Elizondos on the San Juan Hacienda case... Advised the Commander General of the occurrences in Béjar and told him of the feelings of the people there on the position of the Elizondos... he was happy with news from Béjar and is sorry about the Hacienda deal." Letter shows heavy age toning and a few chips at upper and lower edges. Very good. From the Taking of Texas Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
