Nehru's statement on the death of Albert Einstein

Jawaharlal Nehru Autograph Manuscript Signed "J. Nehru". Two pages, 5" x 7.25", April 4, 1955. Nehru had been attending the first session of the Bandung Conference, when Cousins told him the news and asked him for a statement to give the American press. The following is the handwritten statement that the Prime Minister provided:

"It is with profound grief that I learn of the death of Professor Einstein. The greatest scientist of the age. He was truly a seeker after truth who did not compromise with evil or untruth. He was a beacon of light in a world where the shadows darken and a strength to those who grow weak in the storm and stress of circumstances. I offer my homage to his memory and my deep sympathy to his daughter, who shared the joys and sorrows with him in a life which knew both."

    Ex. Norman Cousins Estate.

Condition: Lightly toned, with horizontal fold. In good condition.
