DescriptionGolda Meir Typed Letter Signed as Israel's minister of labor. One page, 6.25" x 8.75", in Hebrew, on Ministry of Labour letterhead, Jerusalem, January 17, 1955. Golda Meir (1898-1978) was first elected to the Knesset in 1949, becoming minister of labor that year. She served in that capacity until 1956, when she became foreign minister under Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. She retired in 1966, but after the death of Levi Eshkol in 1969, she was elected as his successor, becoming Israel's first female prime minister.
Condition: Smoothed folds; two binding holes in the right margin. Mounting remnants along the upper edge and at the lower corners on the verso.
