Edvard Grieg Autograph Letter Signed. "Edvard Grieg". Two-page bifolium, docketed on the verso, 5.75" x 8.75". In German. Leipzig, Germany; September 15, 1883. A letter from the legendary Norwegian Romantic composer, known for boosting the Norwegian national identity with use his native folk music in his works, much the way Dvorak did for the Czechs. Writing to an "Esteemed Master," Grieg delightedly looks forward to travelling to him with hopes of conducting "any small orchestral piece." Later he eloquently states his desire to become friends with the letter's recipient: "As an artist, I am of course a sanguine person. I am very much in hopes that everything will work so well that I will soon have the occasion, so long hoped for, to get to know you personally." Includes translation.

Condition: Light toning, with slight handling wear, and a bit of ink smudging. A minute area of separation at the top edge.
