    British Loyalists of the American Revolution 1). Jonathan Cotton, Partly Printed Document Signed, one page, 13" x 15", March 25, 1767. Appointment to the Navy of Benj. Osgood, some loss of paper, water stained, and mounted to silk 2). Gen. Ludlow, Autograph Document Signed, one page, 5" x 8" London, January 6, 1770. A note of rate exchange for Arnold Nesbitt to convert 250 Pounds Irish Value. Boldly Signed "Ludlow", trimmed from a larger piece of paper, otherwise very fine. Ludlow was a British General during the revolution. 3). Andrew Marschalk, Autograph Document Signed, one page, 8" x 14" New York, August 21, 1799. This item is an accounting of Marschalk's estate that details the exchange of 16 Pounds British for "Act of Congress Money", fine condition. 4). Joseph Galloway, Autograph letter Signed, two pages, 8" x 14", September 28, 1770. A letter to the Governor authorizing a reward for the apprehension of Lazarus Stewart who has committed "Audacious Contempt to the Authority of the Magistracy", fine condition. Galloway served in the first continental congress and supported the revolution. He was an associate of Ben Franklin's, and urged reform on the Stamp Act and the Townsend Act. However in December of 1776, he joined General Howe and assisted in the British capture of Philadelphia. When the British abandoned the city in 1778 Galloway went with them. The Pennsylvania General Assembly convicted him of treason and confiscated his domestic holdings. Galloway Township, New Jersey is named after him. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
