Apollo 12: Book of Watercolor Prints Signed by Madame Chiang Kai-shek Presented to Alan and Sue Bean during the "Bullseye" World Tour in 1970, with Photo, from the Alan Bean Family Collection. Taiwan was the nineteenth of twenty stops on a thirty-four day whirlwind goodwill tour that the Apollo 12 crew (and their wives) took in early 1970 after their successful lunar landing mission. They arrived in Taipei on March 20th and were greeted by thousands of admirers. During the four-day stay there, they met with President and Madame Chiang Kai-shek where the crew presented the leader with a flag flown to the moon; an original 10" x 8" B&W photo of that meeting is included with the lot. The popular Madame Chiang presented Bean and his wife with a 9" x 14" soft-bound book of her lovely watercolors, and signed it: "Captain and Mrs. Bean/ May-ling Soong Chiang". Included is a handwritten notecard from Sue Bean reading, in part: "Book given to Capt. And Mrs. Bean when they presented a flag of Nationalist China which was carried on Apollo 11 to Chiang Kai-Shek in March 1970 after Apollo XII flight... These are prints of Mrs. Chiang Kai-Shek's watercolors. She was an exceptional artist and went to school in U.S." Photo excellent, book has wear, very good.
