Description

1965 New Year's Greeting Signed by Twelve Early Cosmonauts, 11.5" x 15.5". Multi-colored, hand-painted and hand-lettered 1965 New Year's greeting created by cosmonauts' wives, depicting a cosmonaut in a red spacesuit holding up what resembles a Christmas tree (no ornaments except for a star at top), prominently displaying the hammer and sickle, signed by Yuri Gagarin (first man in space), Gherman Titov, Pavel Popovich, Valery Bykovsky, Valentina Tereshkova (first woman in space), Vladimir Komarov (crashed during re-entry aboard Soyuz 1 in 1967, first to die in flight), Boris Yegorov, Pavel Belyayev, Boris Volynov, Yevgeny Khrunov, Georgy Shonin, and Vitaly Zholobov. In part, "We greet and congratulate the collective of scientists, engineering & technical workers, and teachers, and all the Soviet people in the new year 1965. The science and technology of our country has achieved many successes, there are spaceships in orbit which are symbolic of the bright achievements of the Soviet people and the government in conquering the star world. The Soviet nation is a nation of builders. We are thankful to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the U.S.S.R., and the Council of Ministers..." Fragile margins with minor tears and chipping and slight separation at a mid-horizontal fold. Double-matted with a description of the item and framed to 18" x 26". A truly unique souvenir of early cosmonautica.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
