Description

    [Queen Elizabeth I]. Partial Document Signed by Members of Elizabeth's Council. Two pages of one leaf, 8" x 10.5", 1586. Signed on page two by William Cecil, Francis Walsingham, Francis Knollys, and Christopher Hatton. William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley, (1520-1598) served as the chief advisor of Queen Elizabeth for most of her reign. Sir Francis Walsingham (1532-1590) served as the queen's principal secretary from 1573-1590. Francis Knollys (1511-1596) served as a courtier for Henry VIII, Edward VI, and Elizabeth I. Christopher Hatton (1540-1591) served the queen in various ways, mainly as a close personal friend. All signatures are clear. The paper is age-toned with minor staining. Tiny holes exist in some places, such as at fold intersections.
