Description[Horatio Nelson]. Emma, Lady Hamilton, Sheet Music Signed. Two pages, 8.25" x 12" (sight), London, July 19, 1807. Lady Hamilton (1765-1815), the wife of Sir William Hamilton, was the mistress of Lord Horatio Nelson with whom she had a child, Horatia. She has signed and dated at the upper right corner of a piece of sheet music from Hannam's Collection of Dances &c. Slight blooming around the ink in her signature. Scattered spots of light foxing. Matted and framed to an overall size of 11.25" x 15".
Signed two years after the death of Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar (and four years after the death of her husband), Lady Hamilton was nearly broke and moved to France. She drank heavily and lived in abject poverty.
