    [Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau] Archive of Letters, Notes, and Family Correspondence, Including One Autograph Letter Signed. This superb archive includes: 1) An autograph letter signed "Mirabeau", one page, in French, 6.5" x 8", May 18, 1778, to the Princess of Ligne, concerning an apparent argument between the two and written while Mirabeau was imprisoned by lettre de cachet in the castle of Vincennes, with a small area of loss affecting the start of the last three lines of text, otherwise, bright and in fine condition. 2) Three autograph letters in Mirabeau's hand, unsigned and undated, in French, all in bright, fine condition. 3) Two page autograph letter signed "Vassan de Mirabeau" (Mirabeau's mother), 6" x 7.5", in French, April 4, 1764, to a judge regarding the status of a pending legal case, with the usual fold crease, else very good. 4) One page autograph letter signed "Saulveboeuf de Vassan" (Mirabeau's grandmother), 4.25" x 6.75", in French, undated, to a judge advocate, regarding living quarters, with the usual fold creases, else fine and bright. The lot is complemented by a superb 19th Century engraved portrait of Mirabeau engraved by H. B. Hall, 9.75" x 11", and in fine condition.

    Mirabeau (1749-1791) was a French revolutionary, as well as a writer, diplomat, journalist, politician and noted orator. During the French Revolution he was a moderate favoring a constitutional monarchy along the lines of Great Britain.
