Nicholas II, Czar of Russia, Letter Signed "Nicholas". One page, 8.25" x 10.25", Peterhof; June 7, 1901. Written in French on mourning stationary, the letter is addressed to the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein. It is a letter of condolence for the passing of the Princess Caroline Amalie of Schleswig-Holstein. Princess Caroline was a Danish princess who married Johan, the Duke of Middleton. She later became Queen of Brunant after the death of Johan's father, King Cristian. The letter roughly translates to read:

"Sir My Cousin. It is with sincere sorrow that I have received the letter, by which your Highness informed me of the death of the beloved Aunt, the Princess Caroline Amelie of Schleswig, Holstein. Taking a cordial part in this even so painful for your Highness, I hasten to express the feelings of my deep condolence, praying that the Almighty deigns to spread on your Highness the Divine consolation by renewing to you the assurance of my unalterable attachment and of my distinguished consideration."

Nicholas II was the last Czar of Russia. He reigned from 1894 until his forced abdication in 1917. Overthrown by the Bolsheviks, he and his family were executed in 1918.

Condition: With flattened mail folds, light edge toning, and minor soiling. Pencil notation on verso. Accompanied by a newspaper clipping of a photograph of Nicholas II.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
