"The eye sees primarily shades of grey on the Moon."

Neil Armstrong 1969-Dated Autograph Note Signed with Original Hand-Addressed Envelope. One page, 5.5" x 4.25", written on an inside of a preprinted Apollo 11 foldover acknowledgement note card. The man who had just, four months previously, made history by being the first man to step onto the surface of the moon writes a friendly note to a Canadian correspondent. It reads, in full: "Dear Mrs. Pilkington. Thank you for/ your note and Christmas card. The film/ we use is unable to capture the exact/ color and the processing adds additional/ errors. The eye sees primarily shades/ of grey on the Moon. When the sun is/ high in the sky, some shades of brown and tan can be seen. Best Wishes/ Neil Armstrong". Accompanying the note is the original free-franked NASA transmittal envelope, 6" x 4.5", postmarked Houston, Texas, on November 24, 1969, with Armstrong's handwritten address to "Mrs. N Pilkington" in Manitoba, Canada. Coincidentally, this was the date of the splashdown of Apollo 12, the second manned lunar landing mission. Any Armstrong holographical letter is rare and desirable; the collectability factor is increased exponentially by the 1969 date and his mention of the moon in the content. We expect a spirited competition among collectors to be the winning bidder of this lot. The letter is in very fine condition with minor toning and a light crease at the bottom through the signature. The envelope is rough at the top from opening and has a couple of extraneous notes written by the recipient.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
