Nathan Bedford Forrest Letter Signed "NB Forrest." One page, 7.75" x 10", Kingston, Tennessee; August 4, 1863. A brief letter, addressed to Major General Joseph Wheeler, in which Forrest outlines "instructions by which communications are to be forwarded to him." With docketing on verso.

Forrest and Wheeler had a strained relationship due to rivalry and a lack of respect that Forrest had for Wheeler. Following a defeat at Fort Donelson in early February 1863, Forrest reportedly said to tell General Bragg that he would die rather than fight under Wheeler's command again. Despite their differences, the two men successfully aided the Confederate victory at the Battle of Chickamauga one month later.

Condition: Ink is significantly faded. Flattened mail folds with light toning and soiling throughout. A few small holes have been professionally repaired. Further repaired tears and paper loss at the two vertical edges. Bleed through from the docketing on verso.
