Nathan Bedford Forrest Autograph Letter Signed, "N B Forrest", one page, 7.5" x 9.75", Selma, Alabama, July 24, 1869, to General E.W. Bucks(?), Memphis, Tennessee. It reads in part: "Dear Genl I am here and have done nothing as yet in the way of trading for the road I have come to terms with the Marion Branch...I suppose I will then no (know) what can be done...both roads appear favorable to a consolidation with our road in preference to a sale...". Confederate Lieutenant General Nathan Bedford Forest is considered by many authorities to have been the greatest cavalryman of the Civil War. He was generously endowed with brains and brawn, using both to terrorize his Yankee adversaries. A former planter and slave trader, Forest was ruined by the war's outcome and took employment with the Memphis, Marion & Selma Railroad. With typical aplomb, Forrest worked his way into the company's presidency and remained in that office until 1874. Forrest's signature shows up from time to time on railroad stock certificates from this period, however his correspondence is quite rare. In fact, he loathed writing. This elusive ALS carries a nice, bold signature. Light water stains and a small split along the top margin. Overall fine condition. Housed in a custom grey hardcover binder.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
