Napoleon Bonaparte Autograph Endorsement Signed "Bonaparte" as general-in-chief of the French Army in Italy during the First Italian Campaign. Featured at the top of a two page letter, 8" x 11.5" (sight), in French, Genoa, "17th of Vendémiare of the 5th year of the French republic [circa 1795]," from the French minister to the Republic of Genoa, Guillaume Charles Faipoult de Maisoncelle, to Napoleon regarding the arrest of 46 Spanish recruits who were declared by the governor to be "for the King of Naples." He suggests having the governor arrested to which Napoleon replies: "Send to General to carry out right away the mission suggested by citizen Faipoult."

Napoleon's invasion of Italy was a resounding success (he was defeated in only one battle). Having moved his offensive into Austria, he forced the Allies to broker a peace deal whereby France was given control of northern Italy and the Low Countries.

Aside from minor discoloration of the first page at the upper edge, the document is in fine condition. Matted and framed with a copy of Jacques-Louis David's 1812 portrait "The Emperor Napoleon in His Study at the Tuileries" to an overall size of 46" x 28.5".
