    Description

World War II Shorter Snorter Signed by Richard Bong, Thomas Lynch, Louis Nagy and Others. An Australian 1/2£ note, 5.5" x 2". Also signed by John Wayne and Charles Lindbergh. Bong, Lynch and Nagy all died during the War and their individual signatures are quite scarce. Finding all three on a single note, is particularly unusual, especially when accompanied by celebrity John Wayne and Charles Lindbergh.

This particular note was obtained by George S. Young, who served as a pilot during the war. Included is a photocopy of manuscript he wrote about his experiences during the war. It includes a passage in which he describes a visit from pilot Charles Lindbergh to the base he was stationed. Lindbergh's signature was obtained at that time. According to the consignor, who obtained the note from Young, the John Wayne signature was also added at another time.

Condition: Currency note has heavy wear and soiling, but all signatures remain quite visible. All signatures are on the same side, making it an ideal piece for display.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
