    Winfield Scott Hancock Printed Letter Signed to an unknown recipient. One page, 5" x 7.75", "Headquarters First Army Corps," Washington, December 23, 1864, asking for the recipient to "...confer a favor upon me by noticing, from time to time, in your paper, the First Corps, now being raised." Folds with some light toning.

    More Information: Winfield Scott Hancock (1824-1886) was a career army officer who served with distinction in the Mexican War; he was especially known for his personal leadership during the Battle of Gettysburg. Following the Civil War, he served as the army's senior major general with headquarters in New York. In the presidential election of 1880, Hancock was nominated as the Democratic candidate, but lost the election to James Garfield.
