    West Point - United States Military Academy Diploma, 1880, with accompanying U.S. government documents related to the diploma recipient, Elias Chandler. Three of the documents are secretarially signed by presidents; all are dated from 1819-1906 and are very good to fine.

    More Information:

    This grouping contains six official documents documenting the career of officer Elias Chandler. Chandler (1856-1909), who commanded the First Arkansas Regiment during the Spanish-American War, retired from the military a major in 1906. The documents include the following:


    James Monroe Document Secretarially Signed Document. One page, 13.5" x 10", January 15, 1819, "City of Washington", granting land in the Illinois Territory to veteran Anderson Bottom.


    United States Military Academy Appointment for Cadet Elias Chandler. One page, 8.75" x 10.75", March 16, 1877, signed by Secretary of War George W. McCrary.


    Zachary Taylor Document Secretarially Signed as president. One page, 15.75" x 10", May 1, 1850, "City of Washington", granting land in McDonough County, Illinois, to Isaac Chandler.


    U.S. Military Academy Diploma for Cadet Elias Chandler. One page, 17.5" x 23.5", June 11, 1880, West Point, New York.


    Theodore Roosevelt Autograph Letter Secretarially Signed as president. One page, 8.5" x 11", May 17, 1906, White House, concerning the retirement of Major Elias Chandler.


    Elias E. Chandler Embassy Document Signed. One page, 12" x 17", August 14, 1906, Tokyo, Japan. A passport into Japan issued by the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo.
