    Wesley Merritt Autograph Document Signed as Aide-de-Camp to Major General George B. McClellan. One page, 8" x 10", Army of the Potomac, Washington, March 1, 1862. Special Order No. 59 ordering Lieutenant Clarence Mauck of the 4th cavalry to accompany the regimental band's horses to Louisville, Kentucky. Signed by Wesley Merritt, then a lieutenant in the 2nd Cavalry and aide-de-camp to General McClellan. Merritt would later serve with distinction at Gettysburg and the Appomattox Campaign and ended the war as a brevet major general. The paper is slightly toned with unevenness along the left margin, splits in the fold creases and few old smoothed creases. Otherwise a legible document.
