    Union General John Sedgwick Autograph Letter Signed and Carte de Visite. One and one-quarter page (with additional black leaf), 5" x 8", on Head Quarters 2d Division, Sixth Corps letterhead, [Brandy Station, Virginia], February 15, 1864. Maj. Gen. Sedgwick was in command of the Sixth Corps when he wrote this letter to Maj. S.F. Barstow regarding the resignation of "Maj. Dawson 61st Regt Penn Vols." With the letter is a 2.5" x 4" vignetted portrait of Sedgwick in uniform. The cdv has been mounted to a blue backing sheet. Sedgwick was killed three months after writing this letter, on the second day of the Battle of Spotsylvania (May 9, 1864), when he was cut down by a Confederate sharpshooter. He was the highest ranking officer killed during the war.
