Timothy Pickering Unengrossed Specie Certificate Signed as U.S. Quartermaster General and Autograph Document Signed. Certificate: One page, 9. 25" x 7", n.p., n.d., but printed in the 1780s. Document: Two pages, penned on recto and verso, 13.25" x 8.25", n.p., January 1791. In August 1780, the Continental Congress elected Pickering Quartermaster General, making him responsible for the training, doctrine, and professional development of quartermaster soldiers. It was during his tenure as Quartermaster General that he signed the blank specie certificate offered in this lot. Identified as certificate "No. 14,069" and signed "Tim. Pickering" as Quartermaster General. Occasional faint foxing, otherwise very fine.

Accompanying the specie certificate is a lengthy listing of "Principle & Interest of the following Specie Certificates," containing more than sixty entries. Each entry includes the certificate number that was issued, the name of the person to whom it was issued, date, interest due, etc., and is accomplished in Pickering's hand. Signed on the first page, "Col. Timothy Pickering, late QMG," this document was completed almost six years after Pickering relinquished his post on July 25, 1785. Document is moderately age toned, with a few minor chips along edges. Professional fold repairs on interior pages.
