Description

Thomas Meagher Card Signed "Thomas Francis Meagher." One page, 4" x 4". Countersigned by Charles Gavan Duffy, William S. O'Brien, and John Martin, all fellow Irish nationalists. The card bears the date April, 1849. Meagher's signature is fading slightly at his surname, else fine. With an engraved portrait of Meagher in uniform. Thomas Francis Meagher (1823-1867), an immigrant from Ireland, volunteered to fight for the Union (though he had expressed support for the South) and participated in the First Battle of Bull Run. Following the battle, Meagher returned to New York and formed the Irish Brigade.
