    Stephen Watts Kearny Autograph Letter Signed as captain of the 1st Infantry. One page, 7.75" x 9.75", Baton Rouge [Louisiana], December 2, 1828, with free-franked address leaf. In this letter, addressed to Adjutant General James Gadsden in Washington, Kearny communicates a protest against the transfer of two other officers. Toning with tape repairs to some separated folds. Accompanied by an engraved image of the captain.

    More Information:

    The letter reads in part, "Since my arrival at this Post, I have understood that Bt Major Twiggs of the 7th & Capt Jones of the 1st Infy have applied for Transfer to the other Regt. Allow me, Respectfully, to protest, in the strongest terms, against the injustices that would done me, were this Transfer, to be sanctioned."
