    Stephen D. Lee Autograph Letter Signed "SD Lee." One page, 7.75" x 9.75", Okolona, Mississippi; August 27, 1863. Addressed to the Commander at Grenada, Mississippi, with orders to halt granting leave papers unless in exceptional circumstances. It reads in part:

    "I find that many of the men of Falkners Regiment are in this section of the county having papers from their captains to be absent. Give this your immediate attention and have all the papers recalled, no one should be absent from his command except by our sections or at least of the Comdg Officer of the Regt or Batn who should be warned against granting papers except in extreme cases without your sanction..." The document is tipped into a slightly larger page to measure 8"x 11.25".

    Condition: Flattened folds, with light toning and foxing. Pencil notations on the paper the letter is tipped into. Boldly signed.
