    Description

    Slavery: Two Bills of Sale from Fort Bend County. In each (both are two pages and dated June 1852), J. C. Cartwright sells one slave to Lucinda Nibbs. One states that Cartwright sold "for the sum of five hundred dollars . . . a certain Negro slave named Edmund aged about thirteen years." The other states that for $1,000, Cartwright sold "a certain Negro slave named Andrew aged twenty two years." Both contain an embossed Fort Bend County seal. Minor tape residue on page one of each.
