    Simon Bolivar Buckner Document Signed, with Transmittal Letter. 1) One page promissory note, 8.5" x 13.5", Chicago; September 13, 1883. Promissory note, signed by Buckner, Munfordville, Kentucky, for the amount of $280,000 payable to the Pennsylvania Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in ten years at 5.5% interest per annum, payable semi-annually. The note is marked in pen as paid on August 25, 1897. The back of the document includes a note in pen, dated September 13, 1893, that indicates that the time of payment was extended to September 13, 1897, with the same interest rate and pay schedule. 2) One page typed letter, 8.25" x 10.75", Chicago, from L. Broadhead, Vice President of Ashland Block Association, to A. J. Alexander, Spring Station, Kentucky, enclosing the canceled note of Buckner, paid in full on August 25, 1897. The letter informed Alexander that the firm was "charging your account on the books of the Ashland Block Association with $287,700, being the amount the note and the last installment of interest." 3) Canceled postal cover in which Ashland Block Association sent canceled note to Alexander. 4) A bank draft, 7.75" x 2 7/7", from the Deposit Bank of Frankfort, 7.75" x 2 7/8", October 31, 1901, from Alexander for $35 payable to R.B. Wilson. The draft is signed by Wilson.

    The documents have the usual folds, but otherwise are in fine condition.

    More Information:

    Simon Bolivar Buckner (1823-1914) was an American soldier and politician who fought for the U.S. Army in the Mexican-American War and as a general for the Confederate army in the Civil War. After the Civil War, Buckner served as the 30th governor of his native state of Kentucky.
