Rosario del Campillo Autograph Letter Signed on the Outbreak of Peace. Six pages with integral address leaf, blue paper, written on three pages only, 4to, Guanajuato, May 2, 1848. Addressed to Demetrio Montes de Oca. Because there were "over two thousand Americans in Jalapa, sick and scattered throughout the inhabitants," Rosario del Campillo left the city with her small children. She informs Demetrio Montes that she brought her daughters to Orizava "to save them from the consequent contagion." Her difficulty at Jalapa was compounded because "everything is so costly one can barely subsist." Letter is beautifully penned and in excellent condition. Very fine. From the Taking of Texas Collection.
