    Robert E. Lee Autograph Letter Signed "RE Lee." One page, 7.75" x 7.25", West Point; June 20, 1854. Addressed to Captain Faurot on the Sloop Intrepid. It reads in full: "I send down 2 boxes, directed to Lt. G.W. Custis Lee, Savannah for care of Capt Gilmer U.S. Engineers, which you will much oblige me, by having shipped to Savannah by either the line of Packets, most convenient to you. Please take a bill of Lading & send it to me on your return here."

    Upon graduation from the Military Academy, Lee was given a commission in the U.S. Engineer Corps, a job he was well suited for and quite successful at. He was soon named Assistant in the Chief Engineer's office in Washington, D.C., a post he held from 1834 to 1837.

    Condition: Flattened mail folds with light soiling at the edges and folds. Bold signatures.
