    Richard Byrd Typed Letter Signed. 7.25" x 10.5, Boston, December 21st, 1954. Byrd (1888-1957), a Medal of Honor recipient, was an American naval officer and aviator who explored both poles and crossed the Atlantic Ocean. He signs a typed letter to a Mr. W.S. Woodward of Clinton, New York, rejoicing "that we have made a new and loyal friend this year" and wishing him "...the best Christmas and New Year ever." He also concludes with the postscript, "I am back to normal now having gained quite a few pounds." With 7.5" x 4" stamped envelope. Slight foxing on envelope; smoothed folds.
