Pierre G.T. Beauregard Autograph Letter Signed " G.T.B." One page, 7.75" x 9.75", Asheville; December 7, 1861. A letter written in pencil to Duncan K. McRae. In part," ...I am happy to state that since you joined my command with your fine Regt. on our about the 20 th of July last, you have borne yourself in a soldierly manner & discharged all the duties instructed to you with zeal & intelligence, and evinced an energetic disposition to master all the duties of your office in which position...you have given general Satisfaction & I would be happy to hear of your promotion to a higher grade..." McRae would eventually resign from the army when a junior officer was promoted above him. He would go on to serve the Confederacy in Europe.Condition: Flattened folds and bright paper. A bit of paper adhered at top left corner, with rust stain from a paper clip on verso. Previous collector's note in pencil on verso.
