Pierre G. T. Beauregard Farewell Message Signed "G. T. Beauregard / General CSA". One page, 8" x 12.5", Headquarters, Greensboro, N.C., April 27, 1865. Trained as a civil engineer at the United States Military Academy, Beauregard distinguished himself during the Mexican-American War. He briefly served as the superintendent of West Point but resigned in 1861 when the south seceded and became the first brigadier general in the Confederate States Army. He was an able general and fought in several major engagements during the war including the defense of Charleston, First Manassas, Shiloh and Corinth. Beauregard became increasingly more disillusioned with his assignments as the war progressed. He ended the war in Durham, North Carolina when he surrendered his army to General W. T. Sherman. The farewell message reads in part:

"Events having brought to an end the struggle for the Independence of our Country...The hour is at hand when I must bid each and all of you farewell and a God-Speed to your homes. The day was when I was confident that this parting would be under far different...circumstances when a happy and independent people would be welcome you...but circumstances which neither the courage, the endurance nor the patriotism of our Armies could overcome, have turned by brightest anticipations, my highest hopes into bitter disappointment...I go from among you with profound regret. My good wishes will always attend you...

Condition: Slightly toned with some modest age stains, reinforced at the folds on the blank verso with small holes. Separation at bottom fold. Some chipping along the edges, otherwise a remarkable, moving document in good condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
