Philip Schuyler War Dated Autograph Letter Signed "P. Schuyler." One page, 7.5" x 11.5", [Albany], February 5, 1775. General Schuyler informs Major Cady that no more money can be spent on billeting troops. He writes, in part:

"Inform Major Cady that the provision money is an account hereafter to be settled than no more billeting can be allowed than Congress has ordered...Inform the major that I expect that the men march immediately...".

Schuyler was elected to the Continental Congress in 1775 and served until appointed a major general. He was initially charged with the planning of the invasion of Canada but was replaced due to bad health. Schuyler's ill planning of the Saratoga Campaign cost him his command and he returned to serve two more sessions in the Continental Congress. A rare document, mildly toned and with the usual folds, else fine condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
