    Description

    Philip H. Sheridan Autograph Letter Signed "P.H. Sheridan." Three pages, 5" x 6.5", Chicago, July 2, 1878. The letter was written to a General Strong, and it reads in part, "…I am sorry to say, that in consequence of information from Washington received this morning which obliges me to make out at once a formal report accompanied by statistical evidence of raids, & troubles on the Rio Grande border, that I will not be able to go with your party to the Opening of the Ship Canal…" Sheridan was a decorated general as well as one of the architects who secured and preserved the area known as Yellowstone National Park.

    The letter is in very fine condition; usual folds are present; letter is mounted onto a larger sheet of paper. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
