    Pennsylvania Budget for the Defense of the Western Frontier, 1791 and 1792, signed twice by Clement Biddle as "Qu[arter] Ma[ster] Genl. Pennsyl." Three pages, 7.75" x 10", Philadelphia, November 22, 1792. The budget, containing expenditures and appropriations, was presented to Pennsylvania's first governor, Thomas Mifflin. The toned document contains two small tape repairs and is affixed to a mat (overall size 8.5" x 11.5").

    Specific expenditures "for defence of the frontiers" include "sundries", "arms & ammunition", "pay rolls", "Rations", "Dr. Bedford hospital & surgeons", and more. Clement Biddle, a Revolutionary War veteran, was Pennsylvania's quartermaster general of the Pennsylvania militia, as well as the state's first U.S. Marshal.
