    Description

    Napoleon Bonaparte Letter Signed, "Napo". Two pages, front and verso, 7.25" x 9", Naugardiski (Poland), June 23, 1812, in French. The letter, addressed to Count Dirk van Hogendorp, general in the Grand Armeé, aide-de-camp to the Emperor, and later Governor of Vilnius (Lithuania), discusses the movement of troops and supplies at the military depot of Kowuo on the eve of the French invasion of Russia. On the day the letter was written, June 23, 1812, Napoleon and his Grand Armeé crossed the River Nieman into Lithuanian territory launching his ill-fated Russian Campaign. Toning, folds, repairs on the verso, else very good.
