Major John Pelham: Autographed Book Page. 4.5" x 7.25" page excised from a book of French poems, signed at top: "Cadet John Pelham". Double matted with a portrait of Pelham in military uniform. John Pelham (1838-1863), dubbed "The Gallant Pelham", was an artillery officer who served under Jeb Stuart. An Alabama native, Pelham left West Point a few weeks shy of his graduation to join the Confederate army. He participated in 60 engagements, including 1st Manassas, Antietam and Fredericksburg. His verve and skilled execution so impressed Stonewall Jackson that the general said: "It is really extraordinary to find such nerve and genius in a mere boy. With a Pelham on each flank I believe I could whip the world." He received equally glowing commendations from Robert E. Lee. On March 17, 1863, while participating in a cavalry charge, he was struck in the head by a shell fragment and died the following morning. Jeb Stuart eulogized him in a General Order issued three days later.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
