Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Autograph Letter Signed "Joe Kennedy." One page, 6" x 7", on his personal letterhead, Wallingford [Connecticut], January 15, 1932. The sixteen year old elder brother of future President John F. Kennedy was attending Choate School when he wrote this letter to Arthur Goldsmith, a classmate of his father's from Harvard, regarding advertising in the school's yearbook, in part: "Thank you very much for your advertisement in The Brief. The publication does not come out till May, and you will receive bill and proof of advertisement then. I also got an advertisement from your brother, and hope you will thank him for me." Folds.

Kennedy Jr. (1915-1944), the eldest of the Kennedy boys, was expected to one day be president of the United States, but was tragically killed in action in Europe during the Second World War. He had nearly finished law school when he volunteered for the U.S. Navy in 1942. Having already flown twenty-five combat missions, he could have returned home, but instead he volunteered for Operation Aphrodite. Kennedy's mission was to pilot an explosives laden bomber to a specific point and bailout, whereby the plane would be sent to its target by remote control and destroyed, but the explosives went off prematurely, killing Kennedy and his co-pilot.
