Jefferson Davis West Point Appointment Signed with Related Military Documents. All of these documents concern Lieutenant Wright Rives, a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy in 1861. The Jefferson Davis DS is four printed pages, 7.75" x 10", from Washington, D.C., and dated March 12, 1856. Davis has signed in bold ink as the Secretary of War notifying Rives that the president had "conditionally appointed you a Cadet in the service of the United States." Some separations along folds. When the cadet graduated, he began his service as a lieutenant in the Department of the Pacific at Fort Umpqua, Oregon. Also included are the following: two vellum military appointments (both dated September 10, 1866) containing the stamped signatures of President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of War Edwin Stanton; three military receipts and an account statement, all dated late 1861; and correspondence between Wright Rives and the War Department (1910) regarding Rives' military records.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
