    Description

Jefferson Davis Telegram to General Braxton Bragg in Tupelo, Mississippi, assigning General Earl Van Dorn command of the Department of South Mississippi and East Louisiana. One page, 8.5" x 5.5", Lynchburg, Virginia, January 19, 1862, sent through the Southern Telegraph Companies. President Davis disappointed at recent results, ordered Gen. Bragg in this telegram to send Gen. Van Dorn to "assume command of the Department of South Miss and East La." Reading in part: "I am disappointed at the failure to execute my orders, and fear that the loss of time which has occurred may produce irreparable injury. Send Genl. Van Dorn with all possible dispatch to assume command of the Department of South Miss and East La."

In the Trans-Mississippi, a feud between Generals Stirling Price and Benjamin McCulloch became so serious by June 1862 that President Davis sent this telegram appointing Van Dorn to overall command. Van Dorn quickly headed west and soon had his headquarters set up at Pocahontas, Arkansas. His first major engagement as commander occurred in March 1862 at the Battle of Pea Ridge, which resulted in a Confederate loss.

Condition: Minor foxing, folds to the corners.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
