    Description

James Longstreet Autograph Letter Signed "J Longstreet." Two pages of a single sheet, 5.75" x 9", no place; February 20, 1894. The letter, addressed to General Munford, has the date and salutation written in ink, while the rest of the letter is in pencil (a point Longstreet was quick to apologize for). The correspondence reads, in part:

"I find at this moment that my ink is out, and night is on so I must ask you to excuse the pencil. I return herewith your papers. My impression has been that you had FitzHugh Lee's division when you reported there and have so represented. Please let me know if this is correct. It does not make much difference about the number of brigades against Read, as the account of Rosser is not intended to represent historical matter further than the bravery of a dead comrade."

Condition: Lightly toned, usual mail folds; overall very good.
