    James H. Lane Personal Copy of Hardee's Infantry Tactics. Richmond: West & Johnston, 1862. 32mo, 211 pages. Once in the possession of Confederate General James H. Lane who has placed his name on the inside of the front board reading: "Brig. Genl. Jas. H. Lane/Wilcox's Division/A.P. Hill's Corps/A.N.V." Additional signatures appear on the front free endpaper and again on the rear free endpaper. On the rear board is a second inscription: "Brig. Gen. Jas. H. Lane/Wilcox's Division/3rd Army Corps/A.N. Va." All four inscriptions/signatures are extremely faint. Front and rear boards detached. Light to moderate toning throughout.

    James H. Lane (1833-1907) was a graduate of V.M.I. and entered Confederate service as a Major in the 1st North Carolina Volunteers. He saw action in several major battles including the Peninsula Campaign, in which he was wounded twice; Gettysburg; and the Wilderness. He surrendered at Appomattox.
