    Horatio Nelson Letter Signed, "Nelson & Bronte," two pages, 8.25" x 12.5"; "aboard the Victory in the Gulph of Palma Sardinia / 3 August 1804." A letter directing that repairs be made to the Victory. In part: "You are hereby required and directed to repair aboard the said ship and take most strict and careful survey on the three pipes of wine and three casks of pears before mentioned, stating very particularly in your report the cause of the wines being so lost, as well as the storage of the casks which contain it, and whether blame is imputable on that account..."

    Lord Nelson died aboard this very ship the following year in October 1805 after being mortally wounded during the Battle of Trafalgar. Captain Hardy, who is referenced in this letter, was by his side. Ex. Kenneth Rendell Gallery.

    Condition: Uneven toning, and heavy wear at the folds. There is a vertical tear along the left margin affecting three words on the verso. Small chips of paper loss at folds at margins, and both bottom corners; also small amount of paper loss affecting a single word on the fourth line on verso. Lord Nelson's signature remains bold and prominent.
