Paul, who was wounded at Gettysburg; Admiral David D. Porter; John Pope; James B. Ricketts; Thomas H. Ruger; Alexander Shaler, a Medal of Honor recipient and the only commander of a Union POW camp to find himself a prisoner in a Confederate military prison; Phil Sheridan; Daniel Sickles; Julius Stahel, a Medal of Honor recipient; George Sykes; Lew Wallace; Gouverneur K. Warren; Admiral Charles Wilkes; Admiral John L. Worden, who, as a captain, commanded the USS Monitor during the famous clash of ironclads at the Battle of Hampton Roads; and many, many others.
