    Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 6.5" x 6.75", La Grange; July 6, 1807. In this letter to an unknown recipient Lafayette discusses his crops. It reads in full: "I have received your kind favour dated on a Happy day, 4th July - accept my best thanks for the note you Have been pleased to Inclose. I Hope it will prove very useful to my friends. What you have told me of the Rutabaga leads me to think I might after the Wheat Harvest go on the same field wherein called a stolen crop. If you are of the same opinion will you send me some seed with an instruction, only for an experiment. I beg you to mention me to our friends when you see them and to the ladies with you." Signed, "Lafayette." With a postscript which reads in full: "My wife and family have much regretted their absence from home when you visited La Grange."

    Condition: Lightly foxed and soiled with some light edgewear. .75" closed tear along left edge.
